专家简介

Prof Loh Wai Lam joined NUS in 2006 as an Associate Professor of Practise at the Department of Mechanical Engineering in NUS, after spending more than 16 years in the UK for several Oil & Gas and related companies since 1990, in the capacities of Senior Project Engineer, Project Manager, Consultant and Head of R&D. During this time, he has led and managed numerous multi-disciplinary consortium industrial R&D projects for the Oil & Gas Industry relating to Offshore Oil & Gas production, subsea processing and transportation, etc. Prof Loh is a Chartered Engineer and a Member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers. He is also the Programme Manager (Subsea Systems and Transportation) for the Centre of Offshore Research & Engineering (CORE).

内容摘要

Subsea processing represents a transformative advancement in offshore oil and gas production, moving fundamental separation and treatment functions from the surface platform directly to the seabed. This technology encompasses key processes such as subsea separation (of oil, gas, water, and sand), single-phase or multi-phase boosting, and gas compression. By processing wellstreams on the seafloor, these systems significantly enhance recovery rates by lowering the back-pressure on reservoirs and enabling production from fields with challenging pressure or flow characteristics. The core benefits include debottlenecking topside facilities, reducing the size and cost of surface infrastructure, and enabling economic development of marginal or ultra-deepwater fields. As the industry moves towards all-subsea factories, this technology is pivotal for extending field life, improving operational efficiency, and reducing the overall environmental footprint of offshore developments.
