专家简介

Prof Loh Wai Lam joined NUS in 2006 as an Associate Professor of Practise at the Department of Mechanical Engineering in NUS, after spending more than 16 years in the UK for several Oil & Gas and related companies since 1990, in the capacities of Senior Project Engineer, Project Manager, Consultant and Head of R&D. During this time, he has led and managed numerous multi-disciplinary consortium industrial R&D projects for the Oil & Gas Industry relating to Offshore Oil & Gas production, subsea processing and transportation, etc. Prof Loh is a Chartered Engineer and a Member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers. He is also the Programme Manager (Subsea Systems and Transportation) for the Centre of Offshore Research & Engineering (CORE).

内容摘要

Subsea construction metrology survey is the specialized discipline of obtaining precise measurements between underwater structures, a critical step preceding their final connection. This process is most commonly applied before installing spoolpieces and jumpers, which link pre-installed assets like manifolds, pipelines, and trees. Since these components are fabricated onshore with millimeter precision, the as-built subsea field geometry must be measured with equal accuracy. The core challenge lies in compensating for environmental errors, particularly sound velocity variations in the water column. The final deliverable is a detailed 3D model of the subsea site, providing the exact dimensions and angles needed to fabricate and install the connecting components with a first-time-fit, avoiding costly and time-consuming rework.
