专家简介

Prof Loh Wai Lam joined NUS in 2006 as an Associate Professor of Practise at the Department of Mechanical Engineering in NUS, after spending more than 16 years in the UK for several Oil & Gas and related companies since 1990, in the capacities of Senior Project Engineer, Project Manager, Consultant and Head of R&D. During this time, he has led and managed numerous multi-disciplinary consortium industrial R&D projects for the Oil & Gas Industry relating to Offshore Oil & Gas production, subsea processing and transportation, etc. Prof Loh is a Chartered Engineer and a Member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers. He is also the Programme Manager (Subsea Systems and Transportation) for the Centre of Offshore Research & Engineering (CORE).

内容摘要

The success of modern subsea construction, from the installation of massive templates to the connection of pipelines and umbilicals, hinges on achieving millimeter-to-centimeter precision in a dynamic, opaque, and unforgiving environment. This lecture, "Subsea Construction: Positioning and Metrology," delves into the critical technologies and methodologies that make this precision possible. We will also address the significant challenges posed by water column variability, acoustic noise, and equipment calibration, and discuss how real-time data integration and rigorous error management are paramount to mitigating risk. This lecture will provide a comprehensive overview of the principles and practices that ensure subsea infrastructure is placed and connected with the absolute positional accuracy required for safe and reliable long-term operation.
