专家简介

Prof Loh Wai Lam joined NUS in 2006 as an Associate Professor of Practise at the Department of Mechanical Engineering in NUS, after spending more than 16 years in the UK for several Oil & Gas and related companies since 1990, in the capacities of Senior Project Engineer, Project Manager, Consultant and Head of R&D. During this time, he has led and managed numerous multi-disciplinary consortium industrial R&D projects for the Oil & Gas Industry relating to Offshore Oil & Gas production, subsea processing and transportation, etc. Prof Loh is a Chartered Engineer and a Member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers. He is also the Programme Manager (Subsea Systems and Transportation) for the Centre of Offshore Research & Engineering (CORE).

内容摘要

Subsea construction represents a significant engineering challenge, where infrastructure must endure in a remote and geotechnically dynamic environment. This lecture delves into the critical interface between subsea structures and the seabed, a key factor for ensuring long-term integrity and safety. The discussion will then pivot to the indispensable role of Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs) in managing these seabed interactions. We will examine how ROVs, equipped with advanced sensors and manipulators, are deployed for pre-installation surveying, real-time monitoring during placement, and post-construction inspection. This integrated perspective is essential for the future of offshore engineering.
