内容摘要:Flow past bluff bodies is one of the most classic research topics in fluid mechanics, which is of great interest for a wide range of engineering applications. In subsea engineering, many bluff bodies have an infinite long span and are regarded as nominally two-dimensional (2D). Therefore, 2D simulations were usually carried out to obtain the forces acting on the bodies to reduce the computational cost. However, at high Reynolds numbers, three-dimensional (3D) effects can have significant influence on the hydrodynamic quantities. Some simple geometries of the bluff body will also induce highly 3D wake flow. This presentation will discuss how are the 3D coherent structures in the wake flow related to the drag coefficients and where the large discrepancies between the hydrodynamic forces using 2D and 3D simulations originate. The spatial length scales of 3D flow structures and the Reynolds number effects will be also investigated.
